Classic Racing-Style Glasses Frames
For a customer in school for fashion design, I created a special set of racing goggle-inspired glasses to go with his design set. After a few weeks of back and forth on the design and multiple models, the final iteration was decided and multiple prints were made. Below is a timelapse of the final model being printed, with standard supports, providing the curvature.
On top: the original prototype
Functional hinges
No ability to hold lenses
Arms too long
Poorly shaped for the face
On the bottom: the final result
An inset edge for fitted lenses
Stronger hinge mounts on the body
Better arm length
More accurate facial curvature for the frame
Multiple files were provided to the customer to aid in creating the custom lenses. A DXF file of the lens space was created to provide the option of laser-cutting or use of a water jet. This 1:1 scale drawing was also supplied as a template for hand-cutting.
