U.S. General Box Extension Trays

As a home mechanic and a car enthusiast, my tool collection is ever-growing. However, I usually just buy tools as the need comes up for a specific project. Because of this strategy, I find myself with a greater need for certain types of tool organizers than others. A prime example: I only have one or two pry bars, but I have quite a few ratchet extentions.

With 3D printing, I can take advantage of this mismatch in available space and demand for organization. Some quick measurementsm and simple custom-fit trays for my extensions were made to slot directly into the pry bar rail at the side of my U.S. General service cart.

I made these trays in three sizes, for the main three sizes of extension I had. The corners were left sharp (without fillets, like I would normally use) to allow the trays to fit together as well as possible; normally I prioritize using fillets on corners for parts that may be touched or interacted with, but this isn’t an issue for these given their location.

The outside of the trays take the shape of a simple box, but the inside edge is rounded (see image to the right) to make it easier to scoop extensions from the bottom.

The exact cart, for anyone interested in purchasing something similar, is a: U.S. General 6-Drawer Full-Bank Service Cart (sku: 54517). This product is in no way endorsed or affiliated with Harbor Freight or U.S. General.

If I see any interest in these trays, I may start offering them as a product!
